My first time waxing with strips. Using just a simple butterknife works great. Also putting baby powder or cornstarch on the area to be waxed prevents wax from grabbing skin. That works great on those painfully sensitive areas!

RECIPE: 2 CUPS SUGAR, ¼ CUP LEMON JUICE, ¼ CUP WATER

MAKING THE SUGAR WAX:
Using a gas stove:

1.Put the ingredients in a saucepan and heat it on high. It will boil for approximately ten minutes.

2. Watch the bubbles carefully and when the bubbles turn a light brown color, turn the heat down till it's as low as it can be. The wax should be turning a golden brown color.

3. Let it simmer for about another five minutes while watching very very carefully.
When the wax turns golden brown like the color in my videos then it is done.

(When the wax is on step three and is simmering take a tiny bit out on a spoon and run cold water over it. When it cools enough to touch, it should be stretchy. You can test it on your arm. Do this about every two minutes while the wax is simmering until it stretches out on your arm and pulls off easily. If it sticks and won't come off it's not done and if it's brittle you've overcooked it.)

MAKING WAX USING AN ELECTRIC STOVE:

Follow the same steps but reduce the time alot.

Cook the wax on medium for 5 to 8 minutes.

Reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 6-10 minutes.

Watch the bubbles carefully and when the wax reaches the correct take it off heat immediately.

OTHER INFO:
Sugar waxing is very inexpensive to use. I use a method of pulling the wax up against the hair and then yanking it down. If you pull the wax off against the direction of hair you are only breaking off the hair strands and hair will grow back much faster. Also you can use an ice cube to close and tighten pores after waxing.

If you like to use strips then this is another way:

Put it on warm against the direction of hair growth (for example up your leg) , put your strip of cotton on (a towel, or old t shirt works) rub in the against the direction of the hair growth and yank it off with hair growth. Try not to get it on too thick (You can use a Popsicle stick for an applicator).

For storage put the hot wax into a glass container that won't melt. You can put it in the microwave to reheat it for use.

  • how do you do that with your hands and not with strps??? i'm dying to know...it looks so much easier!

  • I just stretch it up my leg and then pull it off. It wastes a lot less wax and is easier in my opinion

  • yeah i think this is the key to my problems. it's not cooked enough.

  • I do that often. Just be very careful to not Overcook it

  • I've finally cooked it to perfection for using the strips. If I wanted to do the ball method I'd have to cook it a little more because the heat from my hands warms it up too much.

So I started sugaring my legs. Not all the hairs are coming out yet because I've never sugared or waxed them before so they are very strong but I'm sure if I keep doing it it'll get easier and more efficient. In spite of that, I already think I love this method. I don't think I'll ever shave again.

  • Great I hope it works for you!! A lot of times not all the tiny fuzzy baby hair will pull out but you'll still feel smooth. The more you wax the softer and lighter the hair grows back. This has been a lifesaver for me shavers and my thighs don't mix well

  • @makemywayman yep! just use cotton strips.

  • i let it cool completely but how long do i warm it up for? everytime i warm it up it burns me

  • does it work for eyebrows?

  • im just starting out this method and kinda having issues with getting the hairs out. even if i go over it a million times :( i cooked it correctly but it sticks to everything when it warms in my hand. Im gonna try the butter knife method tomorrow and see if it helps

  • how long do u have to cook it ?

  • how do know when it's cool enough to use?

  • @blaackdove69 get a drop of water on your finger, put it on the piece of paste and knead for a bit till it becomes matte orange with pearly shine. It should be easier to spread it and try to press it against your skin quite hard.

    It worked for me ;)

  • I find it doesn't remove my hair when i'm just using the ball. Maybe it's not hot enough? It works when i use cloth though but i don't have a lot of old shirts to use as the strips.

  • I had the same problem the first time I made the wax.
