It was a shame that Vito Corelone met such a formidable foe as Virgil the Turk Sollozzo when he was at an advanced age, and having recently lost his right hand man genco, in truth he never saw it coming.
this is a meeting of two of the most dangerous men in the world, and when two such as these meet, death is sure to follow.
@AdognamedOp i agree, that all the actors played their parts like they were born to play them in 1, but i disagree about Fannucci, his character was perfect, the black hand was a less sophisticated version of what the Don Corelone version of organized crime would become. It was Fannucci very appearance and manner that signaled Vito Corelone that he could be taken down

Al Lettieri was outstanding in his portrayal of Turk Sollazzo. As were most of the characters in Godfather I. Far better than the caricatures from Godfather II. For instance, theres Fannucci, the "Black hand", who resembles more a comic villian that ties girls to railroad tracks than a genuine mobster.
There's just so much more realism in GF I. It's why I rank it as one of the best movies ever made.
