A sampling from an intimate concert setting with Mike Janzen, one of Canada's premiere jazz pianists and accompanists. Janzen introduced the song by explaining how piano students are sometimes described as "playing with oven mitts", and he wondered what it would be like to actually play with oven mitts. Unfortunately the camera's memory card filled up at the precise point of donning the oven mitts. You'll have to attend a Mike Janzen concert to see him do it!
The concert was held October 26, 2009 at Sylvan Lake Alliance Church. What began as a house concert morphed to become a unique evening of improvisation and stories held at the church instead.
Janzen's sophomore album 'Mombacho" was awarded the "Blues/Jazz Album of the Year" three days earlier at the Canadian Gospel Music Awards.
