in my town 1 in 10 work, because we are an at&t town, and at&t doesn't provide service to their payphones anymore.
-
If we had more payphones, I probably wouldn't have a cell phone.
-
In our area the payphones that haven't been ripped out don't work.

Sheetz seems to be removing them all and most places no longer have them I kind of miss them if your out of min on your cell out of bars or for what ever reason a cell won't work pay phones are nice plus you can make 1-800 number calls like to check your bank balance because they can charge you just to use a atm for the same thing I can remember Pay rest rooms

wow but i see them still

I live in Northern Virginia and I see them all the time.

not as rare as you make them seem though in my area on Cape Cod there are lots of seniors (still on the wrong side of the digital divide) so these are pretty common, I heard that NYC has only 13 left!
-
They are less common than they used to be, but where I live they are not hard to find at all. Just about every gas station and grocery store still has them.

Wow, I see pay phones everywhere, in fact there are 4 in my school. I don't see them used often though. Maybe it just depends on the area how common they are, but they are getting sparser no matter where you live
With so many cell phones, I only see about 10% of pay phones as compared to 15 years ago.
I remember seeing rows of them now maybe just one.
