  • Sorry to say, but that is illegal. All marine animals, such as dolphins, are protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Simply by being that close, you are disturbing their natural environment. And if you swim after them, that is harassment. There's a big issue about that in Hawaii with the spinner dolphins. While you may think that dolphin jumping out of the water is having "fun", it very well could be the way the dolphin is communicating that you should not be in the area.

  • I'd like to edit my comment. Seems that the MMPA protects animals within the United States. But just so people know in the U.S., this is not something I suggest doing. If you do want to interact with marine animals safely, I suggest going to a zoological facility.

  • 3rd point is that this company had a permit from the New Zealand government which regulates this kind of activity. 4th point is that in my opinion this company convinced me that they took the well being of the dolphins seriously and spent time educating people.

  • Hey DarkGypsy,

I do agree with your concerns but, The MMP Act is a US law and to my knowledge the does not affect NZ(where the movie was made).2nd point is that the swimming took place in open water and the Dolphins can just swim away. In fact they did not and were very curious.

  • oh this is amazing! swimming with them in the wild!!! :) thanks for sharing!

  • Hi Viicha,

Thanks. It is unfortunate that I had the compromise the quality for e download speed. The original is a bit better.

The swimming was indeed an amazing experience. Much better than I had expected.

    cheerio.

  • This is a fantastic video

    nice one very good

  • I was in kaikoura and swam with the dolphins! it was probably one of the most amaing experiences of my life. I was glad to swim with 300 of them that day in the wild! Hope you had as great of a time as i did!

  • Depends if you want to be responsible for butting in on their social lives and trashing wild populations and perhaps putting yourself in danger also. In captivity they are trained and controlled for a reason these are wild animals and are as unpredictable as any others.

at least in captivity your not risking the wild population

  • I love dolphins sooo much!!! Swimm with them in the wild sea, that´s what i wanna do!!!

  • O...M...G!!! THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!! This is TOTALLY amazing!! I am MORE than jealous!! I paid $125.00 to swim with a dolphin and I CRIED..it is THE most amazing thing in my life!!

  • dolphins dont swim in pools. They get put in pools by people. In the real world, dolphins will not tolerate people trying to touch them. This is, infact, a reason why dolphins will attack people (Jojo the Bottlenose, for example) and why they have killed people in captivity.

Swim with dolphins in the wild. Captivity is fake. What is natural about making a dolphin kiss you?

  • Do they mostly tend to do the dolphin swims in big ole pools or in the ocean?

Do you have to be a really good swimmer or is it more like holding on to the dolphin and riding along?

    Is it rough, or gentle?

I want to know because we have to book it, and there are two excursions....One to swim with them for 30 minutes, and another where you're just kinda "in" the water with them and get to touch, hold and kiss them but not swim with them and I want to know which one to do.

  • We're doing a cruise in July. One of the excursions is swimming with dolphins in Tortola. My guy knows I love dolphins and I wanted to do the dolphin thing in Bermuda when we went but it was all booked up.

He wants to book the dolphin swim for me, but now I'm a little nervous.

I'm a "so so" swimmer, and I am petrified of the ocean since almost drowning about 3 years ago.

  • look at my video! i was wakeskating and saw them swimming and we carried on because we see them all the time, and then they came up to the boat while i was in the water and started playing with us. Amazing creatures!

all this harassment stuff you people are talking about in the wild is crap, have fun with them, they love it!

  • Horace Dobbs is a bit of a dreamer, he states in his books all about how "dolphins are non-aggressive" when that is really not true. Dolphins are one of the most aggressive animals toward one another.

And they don't always 'enjoy' our company, they check you out because they are predators and that is what being a predator means...being curious. Sharks are curious, too.
