Ryu vs. Balrog (Boxer)

Another intense match with one of my favorite Ryus, gRiMmmz. Along with Swiftdeathz, these two always put up such a good fight and we usually trade matches. To be fair to gRiMmmz he wiped the floor with me a few days later but I wasn't recording. Don't worry dude, I'll upload one of your wins soon ;)

Anyway, we both have been working on this matchup and he's taught me a few things. Namely that I have to be very careful with those empty EX Rush uppers on crouching opponents. He really punishes me on those whiffs, as he should. I need to work on that.

In the second round I flubbed a few combos and he made me pay with some amazing execution of his own. He's become amazingly good at timing that nasty tatsu spin kick crossup which you'll see the entire second round. Check out the one he did to Super @1:20....very slick!

I finally figured out the tatsu in the third round and FA absorbed it. I probably should have cr.LP X 3, cr.LK xx Headbutt after but I knew his weakness was the Overhead so I went for it even without EX. Not smart but I got lucky.

In fact, in the games that he avoids the Overhead he usually wins and in the fights I don't spam EX Rush Uppers I usually win...so we both know where to improve!

Always very fun and intense fights with him and I hope to get some more (casuals maybe) in the future. I'll be sure to record them.

I have some good matches with Grimmmz too he's very good and rarely misses his chains and combos. I am amazed you mentioned me and think of me as a good ryu lol thanks for the props havent fought in a while we should have some player matches soon.

When my jump in gets blocked i usually go for c.lp into tick throw but seeing how that overhead into ultra works 90% of the time i should start using it way more

Tick throws really are great to do so I wouldn't stop with that earlier in a match but once you have Ultra, the Overhead is worth a shot. Especially if you've baited a few dash lowers before.

I do sometimes overuse it but I am really surprised at how often it works.

To my knowledge no one else got an overhead that can link to a combo and even Ultra or super like Balrog.

He seems to have the same problem i have...too much blocking low you dont expect that overheard rush punch usually and it gets me in a lot of trouble you did it twice to him in this video alone :(
