Restoring my EeePC back to its original state.
18 months old, so time to cut out all the crap on it and get it back to its original 'as new' software condition.

Was a bit nervous at the start, but went pleasantly smoothly.

I've cut out some of the dull bits where it was copying files, and have speeded up the bit at the end of the usual Windows stuff that happens on first use (language, keyboard selection and stuff like that).
It took just under 20 minutes from first plugging in the external USB DVDS player to finally having a restored Windows up and running.

  • just a question...could i copy the entire dvd into an usb pendrive and do the same job?!?! i guess so.... please let me know mate! :)

  • @matrixITALIA Never tried it but don't see why not.

  • i dont have an external dvd drive and i dont want to buy an external dvd drive. do you know how i can restore my asus eee pc without an external dvd drive. i tried disabling the boot drive and the other one in configurations and pressing f9 but it just loads into safe mode. and safe mode wont load

  • @b1g1freeagain Must have a look at this.

My first thoughts would be to do a search on making a USB memory stick bootable.

Copy the restore DVDs onto memory stick.

Then try a restore from memory stick rather than external DVD (remembering that the memory stick is going into the same USB port as the external DVD would).

  • *cough* annoying keyboard *cough* ....

  • @WeeEmo1 Nasty cough there Brian.

Here, take these lozenges. They come from a Genius Bar, I'm told they'll fix your problems very quickly.

  • when you format do you get the memory it used to have when you bought it?

  • When I get to the end and press yes I really want to do it,it says no fixed disk found,WTF dies that mean!

  • When I go into the bios,it says enter current password, and I do but after the third time it's says failure and it sends me back to the boot up screen

  • hey what if i lost my cd??

  • Thanks for sharing your experience with us...It's kindof intimidating until you see someone else actually doing it. This is really helpful! I appreciated it.

  • Is there a way to restore it with out a cd?
