On Friday I traveled with fellow One HOOD members Paradise Gray and Teisha Stolich under the 9th Street Bridge on the North Side of Pittsburgh to shoot footage for the Season 3 Premiere of This Week With Jasiri X. The reason we wanted to record here is because Pittsburgh is trying to sell itself as this "revitalized" city that has not felt the debilitating effects of the recession. We wanted to show the REAL Pittsburgh that is very much still suffering economically.

When we arrived we approached the people forced to live in these wretched conditions about what we were doing and why we wanted to document their struggle. What we found out made the situation even worse. The City of Pittsburgh was forcing them to move away from downtown so the leaders of the G-20 summit would not see Pittsburgh's homeless. Just a few hours earlier they were told by the police they had to pack up and move their stuff immediately or be subject to arrest.

  • troy polamalu is the fucking DUDE

  • Welfare, food stamps, unemployment compensation and section 8 housing did not exist back in the great depression. Surely homeless people qualify for some benefits. Sometimes you need help to get by. Thee should be a park where they can camp with a porta john and trash pickup. It is scary to be on the 3 Rivers Heritage Trail under a bridge and see a bunch of homeless people loitering. Thank you Pittsburgh Police for making them vacate the area.

  • how they gonna call a homeless person back??

  • See, I am all for helping the homeless but I don't give money because they could be using it for cigarettes or drugs... I would give them clothes or food or even drinks. I am an American and would help them if I could.

  • It's sad to see the way homeless people are treated. People just assume that if you're homeless, it must be your fault. A lot of people who are homeless are forced into it because of things like domestic violence. Instead of brushing them aside, we need to raise awareness and help them. Imagine if you were homeless and people ignored you as you asked for a few dollars to buy some food for your child.

  • This is horrible. These people have it bad enough.

    Homeless relocated?

    Messed up.

  • English mother fucker! Spell the fucking words.

  • "Homeless Forced to Move " how ridiculous does that sound? 1 star.

  • Apparently some of you aren't aware yet that there are no fucking jobs in this town. Probly little bitch ass high school kids. Wait till mommy and daddys unemployment runs out then say our homeless ppl need to leave town. You will be leaving with them then.

  • Our homeless half more than many people in the World.
