Raoul Koczalski is one of those last performers who use the romantic freedom in their perfomance.

  • to be honest let me say this performance is musically and emotionally the best for my heart. i'm plannig to post more recordings from koczalski, there is a much slower recording of this piece. it also sounds beautyful.

  • becouse he can do that.

  • SUPER!!!

  • No doubt, he is fantastic :P

  • superb

  • All of you who think this is too fast please check Chopin's metronome marking. Mr. Koczalski does not suffer from the erratic tempo fluctuations of some of the slower performances, (Something Chopin hated.) This piece is very agitated and a slow tempo loses this quality. Also the ornaments sound better fast. The subtlety of the harmonies and well defined key groups are also more easily grasped at this tempo. The rondo like structure becomes more clear as well. Stunningly beautiful performance.

  • As bumpy as Paderewski's left hand. Pretty tone, weak brain.

  • Well, anyone can do anything one wants to. Pianists do not have to take a road test. I meant, "I don't like it"... it cheapens Chopin's genius. On later listening, I also find this performance a bit "sweaty" too early. I believe Chopin would have wanted the first statement a bit more elegant rather than with flared nostrils. That said, I generally like his playing.

  • Very different -yet superb as well. Bravo! TY.

  • Wonderful

  • Playing at an extremely fast tempo, which is what Liszt said might be acceptable in Mendelssohn, is not really the same as rushing, you know.
