Tsunami Crazy Aussies Surfing Part 1 feb 28 2010
On the morning of the tsunami alert , Burliegh Heads Queensland Feb 28 2010 a lot of crazy Aussies went out to surf the waves coming from Chile.... Maybe they were surfing for Chile ....just a feeling from the heart...... There was a different feeling on Burliegh Heads this morning.
Surf is up and the waves were big and occasionaly a couple of much bigger ones.
Our prayers from Australia to all those affected by the Earth Quake in Chile...We really have no idea of the horror you must be going through at this moment but we send our love and offerings to help in any way we can.. Please spare a prayer for Chile who at this point have been hammered with at least 100 Earth Quakes in the last day , most of these earth Quakes are over 5 magnitude........
Latest news on Tsunami in Australia,
Australian officials have recorded the first effects of a wide-ranging tsunami generated by the Chile earthquake, reporting a rise in sea levels but no major waves.
Water levels rose by a few centimetres off Tasmania, with waves expected to increase in size over the next few hours.
Maria Island off the state's east coast has experienced a tidal increase of 10 centimetres.
Chris Ryan from the Australian Tsunami Warning Centre says while there will not be any impact inland from the tsunami, people should stay off the beach, due to possible dangerous localised flooding.
"For this level of threat, what we call a marine threat, we expect we'll see recordings of half to one metre above the normal tide height on our tide gauges somewhere in the warning zone," he said.
Australian officials warned of possible rises of up to 40 centimetres and strong currents for several hours rolling up the east coast.
"At the moment we're really in the first few minutes of it," said Alasdair Hainsworth, the Bureau of Meteorology's acting assistant director of services.
"It's sea levels rising by just a couple of centimetres at the moment."
Mr Hainsworth says people are advised not to get close to the water to view any tsunami effects.
"We're not expecting to see any significant water inundation but we're still urging people to stay away from the water's edge and stay out of the water," Hainsworth said.
"It's likely to cause strong currents. This could occur for the next four to six hours at least."
