Just purchased this new chinese 6hp 2 stroke ONYX Outboard Motor from Paul up at Onyx Marine in Brisbane.
To my amazement it put my heavy 100kg POLYCRAFT boat and myself (70kgs)
up on the plane at a blistering 30kp/h
So from this I can only assume it really does output the true 6hp
I believe this motor is made by Hyfong in china
LIKES......
Great finish and presentation.
Very Economical on Fuel
Light weight at only 20kgs
Built-in fuel Tank
Incredible value for money
Spare propellor and impeller included in the deal
2 Year Australian Warranty from ONYX Marine
DISLIKES......
No flush plug included
Engine can flood easily making it hard to start if not aware of this vice
Typical 1 cylinder low RPM vibration which seems to be the same with any brand outboard motor mariner yamaha etc
STARTING TIP........
1 / Use only full choke for the initial start or till the engine fires
2 / Close the choke completely opening the throttle halfway till the engine runs continuously, cutting the throttle back to idle immediately once running.
Besure to break in the motor first using a 25:1 Fuel/Oil mix
Use 2 stroke outboard oil NOT lawnmower / whipper snipper oil
Enjoy.......
All good
the question should really be hows it going after a year or 2
If you can stretch the extra dollars get yourself a tohatsu or yamaha
