Ryu was cut down by Doku. But because Ryu's spirit sought revenge for the slaughter of his clan, he was revived. A quote from Hagakure is closest to this in essence:
"Even if one's head were to be suddenly cut off, he should be able to do one more action with certainty. If one were to become like a vengeful ghost and show great determination, though his head is cut off, he should not die." - Hagakure

@monkey670 actually Genshin was more of a challegne than Doku. He was quicker and faster and impossible to nearly enegage him in Close quarters, where Doku was easier to reach in and fight close quarter

This is the hardest fight at the beginning but eventually you realize it's the easiest.

Actually, the falcon didn't revive Ryu because he wasn't really kill by Doku but just wounded from the slash since it didn't cut deep into Ryu. Which later on, he did woke up with revenge against Doku.
