The rise of false teachers have been a problem for humanity for as long as it had been established.

Every single, last one of these scribes, translators, preachers and liars has been misleading the human race down the path of some blood-cult or another!

Starting with judaism, branching to christianity, off into islam - and from them into the thousands of cults we have today - warring with each other - deluding and deceiving themselves; lying to children to frighten them.

    Disgusting, despicable!

The rise of false teachers have been a problem for the church for as long as it had been established. Teachers like Osteen, Hinn, and a lot of these guys on tv distort the bible and make a ton of money from unsuspecting Christians. That's why it is important for followers to compare what the bible says to what these "teachers" are preaching. They are very cunning with words and deceive people for financial gain. It's extremely infuriating because people see them and think "this is Christianity"

If your bible takes that much interpreting, then it is nonsense, because anyone could (and does) interpret it the way it is convenient for them. Look at the 'american way' of making as much money as one can (especially the charlatan preachers - and especially Osteen), when you are distinctly told by jc (if he existed) to sell everything, give to the poor, and "follow me".

"It is easier for a camel to go thru..." you know the rest. ;-)

(It is nonsense, isn't it? Admit it to yourself!)

In the passage you refer to, Jesus tells his disciples that if they are not willing to put their Creator above everything and every person in their life, then they are cannot be His disciple. Jesus obviously did not mean to detest your family. Two of God's commandments are to honor your parents and love your neighbors. Put into the correct context, the verse means to hold Jesus in higher regards than anyone else, even ourselves. Sin is very much a real and dangerous problem in the human soul.

Oh yeah! That jesus, eh? What about that "meek and mild" dude who threatened us all with eternal burning if we strayed from his weird and dangerous path?

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:26

All the faith systems are horrible, despicable and unnecessary.

You have to make up "sin" in order to have something to be forgiven (or tortured) for.

    Peace.

We can't all agree on that, I'm afraid.

I have serious doubt that jc ever existed - but even if he did, I think it would be a despicable example of lateral thinking to believe that "he died for us"! It's nonsense, and the sooner the human race can agree on the stupidity and danger of Iron Age fantasies, the sooner we can move on.

Peace on earth. (For there is no other place.)

I've not been to Elevation services. I've read Furtick's book. I've heard some snippets of Furtick's sermons. I've read pages of criticisms.

Irrespective of who is preaching or what controversies arrive. We can all agree on this: Jesus died for us and that is the greatest blessing we could ever have. God is a good God who loves us and wants us to be obedient to him. We are saved by faith, it is the gift of God.

Everyone needs to be humbled now and then. This was nothing. Chandler went easy on these folks. If Jesus was invited to preach, he might have busted out the whip.

Chandler's preached more Word in 15 minutes than elevation church will do in 15 months.

How does praying Sun Stand Still prayers not glorify God? How does praying safe prayers glorify him? How does praying so that Jesus is glorified in our lives through living by faith not glorify him? Sure, the Old Testament points to Jesus. It also reveals God's character. His glory, the crossing of the red sea, sun stand still, the cross of Christ is God's ultimate intervention to save us. Did God stop working after Jesus? Chandler, I don't think this was helpful.
