I also have a theatre and we use some of Grotowski's exercises, however I would seriously hesitate to call the effect a tribute. In case of the film it was all about the clue quotation.
It's great you had some direct experience with his work. I once participated in a workshop cycle by his "student" Przemyslaw Wasilkowski and it really "opened" a few things for me.
I understand your first reaction. I am aware of the fact that many people who came across some elements from his workshop tend to incorporate them into their methods of work and then irresponsibly say their work is somehow based in Grotowski etc. whereas his way was much more complex than enything you could just borrow...
Thank you anyway for your answer. I had some direct experiences with Grotowski work and theatre, that's way I reacted.. For the rest I respect very much your
research and if you feel yourself somehow obliged with Grotowski, of course you have right!..
For me cutting them off meant searching for primary image of myself as a distinstive person without really being externaly distinctive... That is the only way it corresponded. Obviously it has nothing to do with Grotowski theatrically... I would also add I do not believe it is artistically good :) It's just PERSONAL, nothing more; not by accident published in blogs/people cathegory.
Perhaps you are right that calling is a tribute is a bit of abuse. However in the beginning I used a sentence from "Towards the poor theatre" - I don't know the exact English, but it is about giving up make-up and everything that has been prepared before an actor enters the stage. Refering to everyday life and my experience, dreadlocks have always been a characterization I used to express my perception of being in this world.
Why this dedication to Grotowski? It has really nothing to do. Really nothing! After is possible to discuss if it is or not -artistically- a good work.. That's my immodeste oponion..
