The other day read a bio of an American Doctor who now resides in Europe claiming this reason, it is more in touch with reality. Americans claiming it has the best healthcare when its rated 37th in the world, is out of touch with their best interests. And I'm an American living in Belgium, who hopes to never have to live in that broken promised land again.

@Easyandy100 Ever heard that two wrongs don't make a right? Yes, America has a history of imposing its will, and no, I've never endorsed it. Europe was right to criticize our meddling during the Bush years, but that doesn't grant you the right to do the same to us in the present. You've allowed yourselves to go from high-minded defenders of state autonomy to obnoxious hypocrites.
I've been to the UK and never once touted America's virtues. I expect you to do the same.

@roomie4rent Touchy. I find absurd that you are saying 'mind your own business'; a bit rich coming from a person whose country seems to want to police the rest of the world. If you were to visit the UK and have an accident you are absolutely guaranteed medical attention. You are not guaranteed service for non life threatening, pre existing conditions but because you can't get your healthcare together they'll probably take a look at it for you. One again, you are welcome! x

@Easyandy100 You say I'm wrongly interpreting the advice as 'condescending,' and, in the very same breath, claim the US is neurotic and needs to 'grow up.' You're not even attempting to conceal your sanctimony. I suggest you don't come to our shore if all you'll do is extoll the 'humanity' that the 'enlightened' Britons, in their infinite wisdom and generosity, saw fit to exhibit.
BTW, non-citizens are not guaranteed free health care in the UK. Thanks! o

@roomie4rent If the 'advice' sounds condescending it is probably down to your personal insecurity as well the neuroses the US seems to suffer. I hope you do get socialised medicine eventually as it will mean the US will grow up and act with the humanity every individual deserves in a fully developed country and stop letting the $ rule everything plus it means I won't have to buy health insurance when I visit there as you lot already don't have to when you visit the UK. You're welcome! x

@Easyandy100 You don't seem to understand that when you are offering unsolicited advice, the situation at hand intrinsically does not affect you. We don't want your condescending advice. I find it galling that Europeans, who for so long derided America's attempts at diplomatic pedagogy, are now doing it themselves.
My having socialized medicine or not, does not benefit you in the slightest. Stop concerning yourself with US politics and go watch a cat video or something.
-
@scienceatheism It's not socialised medicine but universal medicine. There is a difference.

@roomie4rent Americans don't think Europe is stupid at all. The Euros don't 'weigh in on matters that don't concern them' as they are way ahead of the US on certain issues and just offering constructive advice. Now you can ignore the advice but don't call them stupid. The fact is there are NO waiting lists once a person has a life threatening illness on social medicine and you can also choose to 'go private' if you have something you want to get seen to straight away, that is the truth.
-
@saburius And Americans think Europeans are stupid and ignorant largely because they weigh in on matters that don't concern them.
-
@saburius FART.
I am from one of those other countries with socialized medicine. It is a godsend for the common folk. NO you don't have to wait in line for surgery and YES you can always get private healthcare if that is what you prefer. You can even get a house call. In the U.S. everything is motivated by money, hence all the stupid propaganda and all the people voting against their own interest. No one in Europe thinks that the U.S. is the greatest country. We think you're stupid and ignorant by and large.

So-called "Obamacare" was a giant gift to private insurance companies. It's hilarious that right-wing morons think it's "socialism"... Talk about clueless.
