Will Smith did scenes of 2 films here at Pershing Square. First, the jump from the arch in Men In Black. A much scarier scene was done here for I Am Legend, in which he was snared by the leg.
It was fun to bike around town when they were filming. The idea was that Manhattan was overtaken by weeds and wildlife. So you bike around and see derelict unwashed cars by the curb, surrounded in patches of weeds. They looked much better in the film than in real life.

Are you sure it is Romanesque?

Absolutely. Grand Central uses interspersed arches and columns, both hallmarks of Romanesque or "like Roman" design. In terms of engineering, though, the pairs of columns mask steel beams capable of supporting a 40-story skyscraper. Early on in the construction process, there was actually an option to do away with the sculptural frieze shown here in the video, and replace it with a skyscraper, as Penn Station eventually did.
