A song Carson wrote about a party we had in Washington last Summer.

"Marysville"
by Carson McHone
---
Dig the hole and light the logs
And watch the flame that glows
The air is cooling Sun is falling
As the friends begin to show
Trucks line up along the street
Dog barks as the car doors slam
Another friendly face walks up
Dog runs to lick their hand
Packs of beer and cigarettes
Pulled out for them to share
Whiskey keeps away the chill
From the jackets that they wear
The bottles passed and the night goes on
With a swig and another song
A calloused hand beats a drum
Voices sing along
Old verses sung new stories told
While the guitar strums along
Some teach the songs some sing along
With the favorites that are played
The night is cold and getting late
Some friends will leave the fire
They'll say good bye and drive away
With a crunch of their tires
The few remaining pull in close
As the fire dies on down
The coals are warm but the light is gone
Just wisps of smoke by now
The Eastern sky begins to glow
As night turns into dawn
Time enough to roll one more
And maybe one more song
The last ones up put out the fire
And stagger on indoors
To find an empty couch or bed
Or a spot on the floor
By the morning all are gone
Spread out across the town
Tired folks off to work
There are jobs to be found
They'll work by day and when the night
Comes back around again
They'll build a fire and sing along
To new songs with old friends
It took me a long time to train Tiz, The Basenji Dog to stick his tongue out when I was filming her. And Carson and her song are great, too!
