I lived and worked in Amsterdam for 4 years, My favorite coffeeeshops were De Rokerij, Kashmir lounge, The Noon and tweede kamer. A good hostel is the Flying pig near Vondel park. My advice when you go is avoid the weekends, go on a week day when its is quieter and it is really easy just to get round on foot so wear some comfy shoes you don't need to hire a bicycle and Haarlem is really nice well worth a visit. Best time to go is for Queens day in April Its mad.

Are tourist banned for coffee shops? What else is there to explore in Amsterdam? How much does a bike cost? What hotel is suitable but cheap to rent for two weeks? Any recommendations for another city in the Netherlands? Looking for a city with lots of coffee shops in bike riding distances and a lot to explore.

@ATLcameron tourist are not banned, they are welcome to enter the coffeeshops of Holland. Bike rentals can be anywhere from 5-10 euros a day and a hotel can be anywhere from 60-150 euros a day. Haarlem is a great city to visit in addition to Amsterdam. There are plenty of coffeeshops and it has a small town vibe. WE love Haarlem.
