Wrote this song at the end of 2010, after working on the lyrics for some time. It's a story of two lonely people whose future plans are going in different directions. Their paths collide briefly in the present, with surprising results for both of them.
I chose this clip to show a guy skipping town in a hurry!

A Place That I Just Left (lyrics)

Every time she drove through Baton Rouge
On her way to Lafayette
She would call in at the Spanish Moon
I believe that's where we met

Seven days and seven nights
We nearly drank the whole town dry
I was looking for one more vieux carre
She was looking for a brand new life

Gonna climb into that car
Gonna leave it all behind me
All the dead end bars & burned out stars
Full of nothing but regret
While she's heading for a place that I just left

Well it seems to me I should've realised
When a woman gets it into her mind
She can listen to a whole lot of sweet nothings
And end up taking it for a sign

Yeah, I'm gonna climb into that car
Gonna leave it far behind me
All the drinking holes full of restless souls
And a lifetime of regret
While she's heading for a place that I just left

I knew that I was sending her a green light
When she called me up to tell me yesterday
She was tired of all those endless days and empty nights
And this time she was coming here to stay

Well maybe I was wrong and maybe I was right
To tell that sweet lady je t'aime
But I was just another loser in another dive bar
So I'm heading for the highway again

Yeah, I'm heading for the highway
Out to where no-one can find me
With a suitcase full of memories
That I'd just as soon forget
While, she's headed for a place that I just left

  • Standing up and applauding. Your spot on with the lyrics but I am thinking maybe seeing your face in the video would help people connect to the song. Anyway, I am a fast fan looking forward to more,

  • @MsOntariorose - thanks again for your kind words. You are so right about putting a face to the music, I have been thinking the same. Will either do an acoustic song filmed 'live' or include some images in the video's. A couple of new songs are almost finished, will put them on here as soon as recorded. Please call back again when you can and see if you like them. Take care, Con x
