"Our film considers Vermeer's preoccupation with the woman's private time and space. It also considers the divide between
the worlds of men and women, and their innate desires to bridge that divide. We were inspired by the sense of passing time
and silence in Vermeer's paintings, as well as his masterly rendering of natural light and shadow. Our film also explores
Vermeer's use of space, both within and outside of the frame, and how that might be achieved with the modern techniques
of moving image and sound recording. We faced the challenges of working with natural light in an indoor environment,
manipulating light only when absolutely necessary. Introductory sessions with Julia Tozer and Simon Payne provided a firm
basis for our own ideas, and with Tim Sidell's consistent feedback we were able to refine our film over many editing sessions.
Seeing our film on the cinema screen at the Cambridge Arts Picturehouse (with special thanks to Trish Sheil) was an exciting
experience, and the project has provided an important milestone in our continued learning and portfolio development."
