This is my hammock setup:
Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO) Double Nest Hammock.
Homemade Hammock Underquilt - insulation and fabric sourced from Walmart.
Homemade 11' x 12" Silnylon Tarp.
Black Diamond Treking Poles hold up one side. The other side is staked to the ground.
The hammock is hung using ENO adjustable slap straps.
Mont-Bell Super Stretch 800 Down #3 sleeping bag used as an overquilt.
I do wear a knit hat and a fleece jacket while I sleep.
This system sleeps warm down to 30 F. At temps below that you freeze your buns off, literally.

  • That was just a few months ago?

    Hail Brother

  • Oh yea,

I hiked past that same spot just last Saturday. It's 2.5 miles from the road but worth the walk Saturday night I slept near the standing chimney shown in my "Birkhead Mountains Wilderness" video. I'm kind of hooked on that trail. Got to play with my atlatl some too.

    Peace Brother Bo

  • nice set up friar! 5/5 that looks helpful im looking for a cool set up with a hammock

  • Thanks Kal

Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO) double nest hammock is a sweet hammock. I like it a lot. All ENO hammocks are rated to hold 400lbs and their color selection is awesome. Price is very reasonable too. A hammock vastly increase your choices for a camp site. No more searching for level ground or clearing debris for a tent.

I plan on making a home made bug net for mine. They sell a net for it but I like to make gear. ENO is in Asheville NC which is regional vendor to me.

  • I'm looking for info on how you set up the "awning" with the poles. How do you do it so they wont just fall over (gravity/wind)? Any vids about this?

  • Hey man we met you on the at at Rufus shelter how are you

  • I have the same hammock....it does the job!

  • nice setup

  • The hammock and tarp set up. I love it and use it myself.

  • Thanks Paco,

Used it down to 30 F with a knit cap, light fleece jacket and a 30 degree down bag as a comforter. I used the queen sized batting and doubled it over to get more thickness.

I'm making a bug net too. Similar to the one on your video.

  • That's almost exactly the setup I've made, including the green ripstop from Walmart! How cold have you used yours down to?

Very nice setup. Extending your tarp out with your hiking poles really makes it look roomy!
