I love the fact that this was written at a time where Catholics were being persecuted, shows he had a true calling to write all of his beautiful masses :)

Is this 2 part men, countertenor solo and childrens choir? What a bizarre yet functional arrangement.

We are singing an advanced piece of this in out high school choir! Sounds amazing!

Byrd was in the chapel royal composing where at this time in the catholic chapel (as there were 2) most of his stuff was written for a small choir of only 1-3 people per part.

I love this so much. We are singing it in an extracurricular music group. I really like the chord at the end of the 1st Kyrie Part. Beautiful. Well Done Christ Church Choir!

@Doctorwho798 Of course it can be sung with just four people. The four parts are right there.

Very nice, if not a little fast. they should ask new college to show them how it's done. LOL!!

My favorite all time mass setting, and Christ Oxford does it great justice.
Lovely. Does anyone know if Byrd's Mass for 4 voices can be sung with just 4 people? Or does it require more?

@Doctorwho798 Absolutely can be, and infact Byrd probably had it in mind for only 4 voices as like its sisters (mass for 3 and 5 voices) it was composed for celebrating Catholic mass, something which at the time was strictly banned in England and thus undertaken in secret.
