Part 2 of the Nov 1980 Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) deployment documentary.
In Part 1 the 1/2 mile OTEC cold water pipe (CWP) was assembled and launched......
In Part 2, the CWP is towed across the open ocean to the OTEC platform, moored 12 miles off the Kona Coast. The intake end is slowly lowered down into the abyss by tug-boat control, until it becomes verticle almost 1/2 mile down, and then transferred delicately to the ship
(OTEC-1 Platform).
The hook up created a successful OTEC demonstration. The technology is there, and the ocean thermal energy conversion system worked as designed.
@sailingsolar lockheed martin is developing this technology 31 years later.

Any Engineers who have to or even allow the idea that they need to appeal to supernatural delusions for success are doomed to failure. Maybe that had something to do with this 1980 project to be a distant memory, 31 years later. So much for the useless pleading with magical forces for success. Spiritual leaders do nothing constructive to advance knowledge or technical know how but are always there and try to reinforce the lie that they are of any value. SS

Ok 9 possible sites, 66 ft pipe, 18 miles out at sea, & a Voodoo man ~ you see the numerological connection?

For sure there are technologies that with great effort can produce expected results. But is this economically feasible? How many pipes have to be sent to the abyss to run each turbine?

OIL ALWAYS WINS! I hate that :(. One day when the oil is running very very very low we will see this technology come online.

Would the ammonia Expansion/condensing generation concept work in the extreme arctic climates, with geothermal heat expandind and the cold air condensing the ammonia? Area such as Alaska, Siberia, Scandanavia and such?
