It's discussed like its an academic exercise and Jon Meacham backs off at the end, but sadly it's true. I like Jon Meacham, a lot, but he should not have backed off.
Nobody here mentioned the true meaning of socailism. Basically, it is an economic system where the means of production are publically owned, and the economy is formed from cooperation, not competition. This is clearly a seperate economic system, outside of capitalism. What these fellows are talking about is social democracy- the idea that the people can collectively collect the fruits of capitalism, and distribute them for the public good. Until economy changed, we are not a socialist country.
If you can't answer my question, it would be better for you not to respond at all, since you only make yourself look all the more foolish by lashing out irrationally.
Yes, it is the Shining Beacon, young demoarlized punk. Go live in Africa and see what they've done with their countries, or maybe the Middle East. Get out, haters, living your cushy little life on the backs of dead Americans who gave it to you.
When was America ever a Shining Beacon? I imagine it had to be sometime after the Civil Rights movement. The 1970s maybe, under Carter? Because we've been going nowhere but down since then.
