  • im so glad you included him in this. i love him so much. his harmonies and melodies are so loose structured and open minded and jazzy. his major orchestral works are practically in their own genre. and not only that but he was a major popular music and broadway composer and wrote many jazz standards. so diverse, so influential, so good. i love gershwin. in my opinion hes one of the best melodists whos ever lived

  • @ugottheblues I think Gershwin had a bigger influence on the 20th Century than any other composer

  • What piece is that from 2:20 to 2:25?

  • @xcnote I'm not sure what piece of music it was. It came with movie clip. It's not Gershwin.

  • George Gershwin was a visionary and a true original. It's a shame he died at such an early age. One can only imagine what Gershwin could have accomplished if he would have lived a longer life. However, i see a lot of disappointment in these comments. It's one thing to disagree with Gershwin's placement on the list and it's another to call him a "one-hit wonder", "just a jazz composer", or to even be appalled to see him on this list. That is just elitist hogwash. An open mind is a healthy one :]

  • @HouseOfLeaves90 Yes, he was a true original, and also a great synthesizer, bringing a lot of diverse musical strands together.

  • Gershwin??! is this just to keep the Americans happy?

Gershwin over Brahms and Stravinsky =/

  • Everybody has the right to their own opinion, but I just do not see how George Gershwin can be put in the same class as people like Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. Now, if one acknoweldges that Handel, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven are in a class by themselves, towering far above any other musical composers, then I can accept varying opinions as to who other great composers are.

  • I knew he died of a tumor, but from a golfball. Damit

  • George Gershwin made one of the top 5 greatest piano concerti ever.

  • My eighth favorite composer is Luigi Boccherini right now.

The famous song from him is Minuet.

  • @ugottheblues and you seemed like one of those people who wouldnt consider him a real composer like many other classical music enthusiasts. haha no offense but yeah a lot of people dont consider him a real composer or his compositions real compositions because theyre so loose structured and have unorthodox modulations and dissonant jazz chords but he was just making music he wanted to make instead of what a teacher told him was the correct way to make music.although he did have a music education
