@DJTEVAdotCOM the vostro v13 is 3.5 pounds. over twice as heavy as the vaio x. macbook air is also 2x heavier. I would know, as a business roadwarrior, that this is a big difference. vaio x's multithread capable atom 2.0ghz processor with ssd hd, is more than capable of doing business tasks quickly, with minimum heat and energy expense. sony aimed carefully and hit the mark. others currently, including the v13 are out of its league.

is this a netbook or a laptop?

and the price...ouch! that's following Apple foot steps where you are really paying for the built quality and looks and not specs. These days, other companies are finding ways of builting nicer laptops without busting your wallet.

i just returned the hp dm3 for the vostro v13....it has an all aluminum outer body using a duo core unlv. If that's the case with sony...u would thnk they would use a duo core atom.

vostro v13 is .65 inch as its thickest

wait.....the dell vostro v13 is just as thin at .65 but dell manage to allow unlv core2duo and 4 gig of ram at under $1,000....why cant sony do the same since it is in the same family.?

It's not in the same family. For one thing the vostro is a 13 inch, that's a lot more real estate space, and allows for a traditional notebook motherboard etc. The Vaio X is only an 11inch, it's 0.1inch thinner, and the actual computer only takes up half the entire computer's area (check our review). Unlike the vostro, this machine is too thin that it needs a custom mobo with the RAM and SSD soldered straight to it instead of in the form of modules.

Oh, and did I mention this thing is less than half the weight of the vostro at 1.5 pounds?

The Vaio X may be using an Atom, but it's not your usual dell mini atom neither. It's running at 1.86 to 2.0 ghz with hyper threading. Considering that the ulvs are running at only around 1.3 to 1.4ghz, the processing power is balanced out on both sides too. just trying to show you why would the Vaio X would cost more, not that it's a perfect product, or everybody's product.
But thanks for the vostro v13 tip. Honestly didn't know about it until you mentioned it.

for me under 1 inch is thin enough but less weight and more power is important....i just order the vostro v13 with 4 gig ram and core2duo unlv...i dont know why sony cant have those specs on their vaio x.

That's because it's too thin to have those specs at a reasonable price. Different people have different tastes and needs, and for you, you don't care about insanely thin. Some people want computers with weights that never have to worry about, and that's what this machine is all about. You're not their target audience.
