During the years between the end of World War I and the beginning of Henry Beston's time on the Outer Beach, The Outermost House author found himself in search of an identity and a purpose in life. Before settling in as a "writer-naturalist," as he called himself, Beston was looking for ways to cleanse his mind of the war and its horrors. The Starlight Fairy Book and The Firelight Fairy Book were two books that came out during that time frame. Both Beston and his wife, Elizabeth Coatsworth, were writers of children's literature at one time or another. In this video shot at the National Literary Landmark dedication for Chimney Farm in Nobleboro, Maine on June 21, 2009, Beston biographer Daniel Payne tells all about Beston's fairy tales.
