The look of the new GV is nice, but GV mobile form Cydia is much faster.To make a call with 1 Click and ur phone is ringing as to the New GV 4 Clicks.

@bcutlerj Google has since updated the official GV app to allow call initiation method, so they addressed the short-coming that made it inferior to the others. It's now a no-brainer to go with official GV app.

BTW, be careful to read your contract, tho for your "Faves" plan: there are reports of carriers back-billing for misuse of such calling plans, back-charging what callers WOULD'VE paid had they actually used airtime. And don't blame me: I'm just the messenger (Google for those reports).

you can actually save minutes by adding your own phone number to your free "Favorites" with AT&T. Then all the time you spend talking on Google Mobile will be using unlimited favorite minutes. It's a great feature.

@AdamSlowHandSmith You're incorrect. Google Voice's primar utility is its ability to manage and route calls to your phones of choice at your hours of choice and to block or accept calls or sent calls to voicemail as you direct. Avoiding airtime charges may be YOUR only reason to use GV, but that's really the LEAST of its real functions.

Fortunately, users CAN access these Google Voice settings FOR FREE from your iPhone's browser by visiting Google Voice,and selecting to view in the 'desktop' version (not mobile).

Go to the Google, slash voice. It uses a mobile version (/m). Type this after the domain name:

voice?ui=desktop&pli=1#inbox

You can even initiate a call from that page (via call-back method) by clicking on the green 'call' button. Bookmark that page to the iPhone desktop,

Jeez, do you guys actually USE the free Google Voice service?

The MAJOR limitation of the web-based app is it doesn't allow users to determine call method for outgoing calls. The WHOLE reason people want to use these apps is to avoid airtime charges. Unfortunately, the web-based app doesn't let user determine outgoing call method, so defaults to using AT&T's GSM network (Direct Dial). MAJOR FAIL.

Both GV Connect and GV Mobile + allow user to set call-back number directly from the app.
