These Hands

The hands which delivered me were those of the first female physician in the village of Okija in Nigeria. That doctor was my aunt, the eldest of 8 children in my moms family. Her hands have done so much to bring health, education, and hope which have transformed her village as well as other communities.

Those hoping to make it in Hollywood believe if their hands match the prints of an icon on featured on the Walk of Fame, they may be destined to the same greatness as that celebrity.

One day, I hope my hands will match the prints my aunt left on this world. I want these hands to take an active part in addressing health disparities in America and Nigeria and creating solutions which can ensure that healthcare is a quintessential right and not a privilege I hope these hands will inspire others to cherish the mystery which is medicine as my aunt has inspired me.
