Yes, I noticed that and wondered whether it was done on purpose or whether it was a coincidence.

If you look at it closely it would appear someone at Network Rail has a sense of humour. H for Hastings, with the numbers 1-01 in it :0) It had the same number on its test run before Nottingham. Also to give it class 1 status throughout should be regarded as a supreme complement for the grand old gal!

Yes, I would've expected it to be a 5Z** too. It has run as 5Z22 when on past test runs.

Quite a mystery then! I will have a look at the computer when I'm back in work and see if there is any info! I'd have expected it to be 5Z** or 1Z** with passengers

I'm afraid I don't know why it ran as a class 1 and not a class 5. When 1001 last went out on a test run (June) it also ran as a class 1.

Do you know why this was a class 1 and not a class 5? 1H01 is one of my trains from Littlehampton to Victoria, so I was surprised to see an ECS with a duplicate train running number with another close by
