The Five Spot in Little Five Points Atlanta is having a fundraiser including three live bands and art show to help Art4TheHomeless, raise the $400 IRS Tax Exempt Fee.

Art4TheHomeless (Art4TH) unites artists of all venues to promote homeless awareness in the USA where the average age of a homeless American is 9 years old. The Five Spot is donating their door charges to Art4TH and also the stage for the local artists to perform. Three of the several visual artists who have panels set up will be raising funds for Art4TH.

Where did Art4TH come from? Art4TH Founder, Johnna Crider, explains:

"My name is Johnna and I was homeless at the ages of 9--11. I was also homeless after Hurricane Katrina though I am not from New Orleans and Katrina didn't hit my hometown of Shreveport, LA. Kevin Costner's movie, The Guardian was supposed to film in New Orleans and relocated their headquarters to Shreveport and rented my landlord's building. That's how I lost my home.

That set me on my path: as an artist, I wanted help the homeless shelters but I had nothing but my own art. Art4TheHomeless started out as a blog and is now bringing together artists of all venues not just promoting homeless awareness but showing the faces of the homeless as human beings. The average age of a homeless American is 9 years old."

The musicians and the Five Spot are working together to raise the money by donating the ticket sales, and visual artists are sharing sales revenue from works sold at the event. Other people in the Little Five and Greater Atlanta communities are also mobilizing to spread the word.

According to Dark Night of the Soul's singer and guitarist Hart Deer,

"The homeless problem... is really more than what we see on the surface... It's... a lot of families and children too... It's not just the panhandlers, or a lot of the people who get the attention, when you think about the kind of image the media puts forth of what a homeless person is. And it's a real problem too, because... the people who need the resources don't always get them. So... this fundraising event, Johnna has been working with Abbey Swanson and Erica over at the Five Spot, and they've agreed, we've all agreed, there're things we can do right now. We don't have to wait. And what this is, it's sort of a grassroots thing that's coming together. It's artists and these good people at the Five Spot, and just the community doing something positive... and creative... to raise awareness... and get some things in motion. It's something very, very positive, taking charge and making a difference... happening."

The three local bands are: Hart Deer and his band, Dark Night of the Soul, Verge of Bliss, and Story of a Life,

Visual Artists include Johnna Crider, Abigail Rose, and Brianna Lee.

Vendors (artists selling mostly handmade jewelry) include Denise Thompson, Abigail Rose, and a homeless US Veteran by the name of David.

This is an event that is bringing together a community in motion—an event that unites music, visual art, and the community of Little 5 Points, Atlanta to promote homeless awareness and to help bring into being Art4TheHomeless.

The show is scheduled for Sunday, July 11 doors open at 8:00 PM

Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
