16 year old cellist, Brannon Cho was proclaimed the grand prize winner of the 2011 American String Teachers Association (ASTA) National Solo Competion on March 19, 2011 at the ASTA National Convention in Kansas City, MO. The competition is open to string students of ASTA members who play violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp and guitar. Students age 19 and under compete in the junior division and students 19-25 years of age compete in the senior division.
Prizes were awarded to the 1st place winner in each instrument for both the Senior and Junior division. Judges select only one contestant as the grand prize winner.

Past winners include famed violinist Joshua Bell (1981), Andres Diaz (1983), Wendy Warner (1986 and 1990), Jennifer Koh (1992), and Jennifer Stumm (1996) all of whom are pursuing international solo careers.
