Me shooting my family's 1896 (1898?) .30-40 Krag-Jorgenson rifle on December 31, 2010. The rifle has been in my family for a very long time. Before this video was shot the last time it had been shot was during the 1970's. The target is 50 yards away. I'm using 165 grain spitzers, because thats the only kind of 30-40 ammo I could find available. I'm sad this is such a rare cartridge because it is a fun gun to shoot. Its a damn accurate gun for how old it is. This is also the first time I've ever really been shooting (so excuse me being a noob and having the safety on in the beginning), and I hit the target about 28/32 times.

  • $1.50?? Where can I get cheap ammo?? Around here, Im paying about $2.50 for Winchester 180 grain. (No, I dont shoot it much, ha ha)

  • @SUP3RZ0MB1E The only place I could find ammo that was in stock was at Wisconsin Cartridge Company. I'm about 99% sure they're just reloaded cartridges. About $50 for 40 rounds when you include tax and shipping. If you're really into spending the money I guess buy the dyes and a bunch of unused cartidges (You can buy like a bag of 100 cartridges for like $20) and reload them yourself.

  • i went shooting 3 day ago on friday and shot that gun for the first time and i loved it, i hit 4 out of 5 about every time at 140 yrds

  • @TheRealMistak3 Yeah its a really fun gun to shoot and super accurate. The old semi-retired army guys that supervise the range told me they and some of the other shooters at the range were watching me and were really impressed. One of them was like, "The same spot in the dirt behind the target was kicking up every time."

  • @pyromancj1 yeah my dad and his shooting buddys said that about me and i jest laughed.

  • @Perseiden2 It was also used in the Philippine-American War. Americans used the Krag and we Pinoys used (mostly) the Spanish Mauser rifle.

I am still very much pro-American as well as 82% of us Filipinos.

  • @pyromancj1 In Canada it's harder to find the rare stuff. I have to go to a gun shop, and order it. I don't shoot it much anyways, since the rifle (Winchester 1895) is 108 years old.

  • norwegian designed :D i live in the motherland of that rifle <3

  • @Perseiden2 yes, used by US forces.

  • spanish american war ?
