Our pet parakeet talking. Not much action at the beginning of the video, but he really gets going later on.

  • my parakeet has one wing down and one wing up, she was flying today fine but the wing is still down.....it that wing broken...should i take her to a vet?

  • @ChyronBad My husband says sometimes parakeets just get some of their feathers out of alignment and don't bother to put them back. Sometimes they may actually have a sore wing. Having a wing down doesn't necessarily mean the wing is seriously hurt, in other words. That said, use your judgment. If it doesn't seem better in a few days, find a vet who knows something about birds (and not all of them will treat birds, so ask around), and take your bird in. Dh is not a vet.

  • We used to let him fly around the house for exercise. He chose to go over to the window and look out for awhile. :-)

  • Someone asked in the comments whether we got Peeper from a breeder or not. He came from a pet store, but all of our previous parakeets came from a breeder. Usually you get better birds from a breeder, for sure. You have to make them feel like you are their flock from the outset. If you've already had your parakeet for months and haven't tried to feed them from your hand, let them sit on your shoulder, or talk to them, it's probably too late to teach them to talk.

  • superjenny1231, Peeper is inside the window in this video. Once he did get outside, and it took us several hours to get him down from a tree!

  • Well, David, Peeper has been dead for a year and a half, but this is an actual video of him really talking. Parakeets do mimic the voice they learn from, and my husband does have a deep bass voice, so I think that's why he sounds "fake" to some people. But it's actually him talking. I swear!
