N.T. Wright Responds to John Piper 9

Bishop Wright finds it astonishing that Dr. Piper warns his readers NOT to take our knowledge of first-century Judaism too seriously. Bishop Wright argues that any reading of scripture that doesn't include an understanding of the world the Bible was written in will lead to interpretations riddled with anachronisms (falsely reading contemporary ideas into historical writings.) For example, modern readers often misinterpret the biblical term, Kingdom of Heaven, as referring to "a place we go to when we die." But ancient readers knew the phrase meant "the rule of heaven on earth."

Dordt is not at all representative of the church, and non-Calvinists couldn't care less what it considered spiritually dangerous or what declared to be heresy. Calvinists are kind of isolated on their own theological island because, unlike other systems, Calvinism is positively repugnant to anybody who doesn't accept it (especially the doctrine of limited atonement). Lutherans are probably now the closest in their outlook, but for multiple reasons most don't feel a 'kinship' to the Reformed.

Nah, its the same thing. All the leaders of the Churches came together to deal with the Arminian lie.

Second a Synod is a local meeting, not a Church wide meeting such as a Council, and therefore has no real authority to declare anything a heresy. Even if it was a Council, it could still have been wrong.
