Michael Showalter, a veteran of both "The State" and "Stella," performs a disastrous set at the Pitchfork Music Festival. Union Park, Chicago, Ill. July 16, 2010
I walked in about 15 minutes into his set... and he was already drowning. his act had jumped the tracks and was crashing in slow motion. at first I thought "this is unusual enough to pay attention to." I figured that he had some sort of Plan B material for when his act was failing, but that didn't happen... he kept going with no material to work with. It was like watching a moron 10th grader give a class speech without having studied or written anything.
God! I just wish the other half of this set was on here, seeing him bomb was fantastic in a totally sadistic and misanthropic way. I was kind of under the impression by the end of the set someone had dropped acid in his water or something. As odd as it sounds, this was my favorite performance from Friday.
i was pissed he was on at the same time as broken social scene, i'd never seen them before and had caught showalter with stella a few years ago, so bss won. thank you mr. youtube for allowing me to relive the moment with michael. so, when and why did it go to poop?
I really felt bad for the guy. Broken Social Scene was playing directly across the field, and it was really messing up his concentration. This 7 minutes was just before everything went to poop.
I love BSS but I think I would go see Showalter....

If you took away the ambient sounds from the rest of the festival, you wouldn't think he bombed.
