This guy's clearly a kook but I would suggest not to turn your back on this idea in general. As crazy as it appears it has some chance of explaining large changes in the world.

If it turns out the universe really is a 4d fractal and full deterministic, you may get certain patterns over time like those you see in normal fractals (for large periods of time).
