The middle movement of a work I wrote in 2007 depicting a soldier's psyche as he struggles to be patriotic while having to commit atrocities in the name of that patriotism. It was inspired by my relationship with several Bosnian refugees.

"Vespers" is a religious service that begins with the saying "Deus, in adiutorium meum intende. Domine, ad adiuvandum me festina." That translates roughly to "Lord come to my assistance, make haste to save me."
