It's Wednesday again! I talk a bit about effeminate stereotypes of gay men. Discuss, please!

  • awesome vid! im so glad you showed up in my recommended videos.

  • Well, there's a whole sect of the feminist movement that doesn't believe males can be feminist at all because of their gender. The point being there is a spectrum within feminism as there is in everything else - opinions are not decided for you when you identify as feminist.

Queer issues and Feminism align with me because I feel as though misperceptions of homosexuality are tied to misperceptions of gender - something that feminism fights against.

Thanks for contributing to the discussion :).

  • I've been thinking a lot about this lately too. I think that society believes that all gays are on the side of feminism however I think that identity defined by homosexuality and the politics of feminism are completely different subjects. Just because I'm gay doesn't mean I agree with everything that a feminist movement has to offer.

I'm all for equal rights however when it comes down to cases in law arguing over who gains custody over the kids, I think people need to stop aligning with women.

  • Thanks so much! I was a little bit worried about what I was going to talk about, and then it just came to me: SEXUALITY DOES NOT EQUAL GENDER ROLES LIKE WOAH.

And no problem on the shout-out ;)

  • I'm European and from a Med. background, and the way men interact is slightly different to the way other men in other parts of the world interact with each other.

As a consequence to that flicking of behaviour and norms I tend to align myself more with being Queer. For it steers clear of gender and sexuality, not-in-a-closet-sense, but in a way where people of like minds can discuss what is important to them without having to play snap.

    Great vid!

  • Hey Kevin! Great video. I think this really opens up the discussion around femininity projected on gay men and how this oppresses them. Beautiful. [and thanks for the shout out :) I think you're great too]
