Here is a demonstration of SUPERPLEXUS CIRCLES, a 24" diameter commission for a private collector. Playtime is about an hour for a player to get to the end, if you don't fall off! CIRCLES is meant to be challenging, though doable. It was my second private commission and was lots of fun to make from birch aircraft plywood, acrylic, Jatoba, and stainless steel. Filmed and edited by Angelica Tercero.

  • I wonder if You have considered the use of a Ball-bearing Base Stand, which would remove the need for a Gimbal, no more gimbal lock or getting in the way of manoeuvring the sphere.

Perhaps 3 ball bearing points that the sphere rests on in the base...

  • @theblackpixieJTHM Yes, I am working on it. The issues are threefold. How to: not scratch the domes, find perfectly spherical domes (these are usually molded rather than blown, which requires large, precise, and polished molds), and prevent the sphere from being pushed out of the base. None of these issues are insurmountable, but the material choices and precision need to be worked out. I'm in the beginning stages of working on such a thing with a museum. Thanks for asking! Regards, Michael

  • Michael, I am really flabbergasted. This is beautifully made and it looks so smooth and balanced. The above mentioned 300 hours, well I thought it was way more...what a masterpiece!! Is this the biggest one you made? Are the inner parts made of wood? The Epic 'how to' film shows Escher's Stairs; I wanted to let you know about my hand made marble run around some of Escher's works. You can look it up on youtube. Please let me know your comments on that Michael, I really would be honored!!

  • @simonvanthoff Hello, and congratulations on your marvelous creation! I tried to leave a lengthy response on your YouTube page, but it did not work. Perhaps 30 minutes of composing on my iPad, then poof! It was gone. In essence, I wanted to tell you how enjoyable and clever your Escher piece is. The sounds are very soothing to me and aesthetically it is very strong. One of the things most charming about it is the color palette, which reminds me of the circus, old time fairs, turn of ...

  • CONTINUATION OF MY PREVIOUS COMMENT>>> turn of the century tin contraptions, and of course, Escher's artwork. Also, it was a double pleasure to see your videos as an accomplish pianist. Quite wonderful. Please keep making music and sculpture! Regards, Michael
