I am having problems with any of the non default Windows 7 x64 drivers for the NVidia 9800GT. It is a really anoying problem. Reinstallation of Windows 7 etc is not helping. Upgraded all drivers and firmwares it that was possible. Removed my soundblaster audio card (now using on-board audio). Really nothing helps.
Restoring back to the previous drivers fixes the problem.
I get this just instead of freezing I get blank screen and my monitor doesn't recognize any input and I need to do a hardboot, I use a radeon HD6770 vapour-X graphics card

@kornelious1 *replacement card* but my issue locks up on youtube videos randomly.. this is so damn gay it's not even funny.. but do you think nvidia cares? NO they just going to force you into a new card and if thats the case i'm definately going with ATI. I just bought a new computer and i have zero nvidia products in it.. i have my first ATI card in years and i'm shocked and impressed with how awesome it is.. i will get getting another and it's XFX nvidia *finger*

Well, now I'd post the link but youtube won't let me. Have a look on "techsupportforum" website under "microsoft support", then "windows vista, windows 7 support", and then its issue #287513 - "solved random vista crashes". For anyone who thinks they have this, check your Event Log in "Administrative Tools" (found by entering it into the Search bar of your Start menu).

I have the same problem on 32 bit Vista. I had a crash caused by the driver about a month ago, so I installed the latest. All was well. On Friday night (6 days ago) I started getting lock-ups. It usually happens during or quitting a game, however it also occurs on the desktop. The mouse pointer will stutters, locks up, the screen hangs. I think it's a drivers - found this:

I have the same problem with xfx9800gt and windows 7x64. I didn't not have problems with this gear on vista x86.
Really disappointed as this is my computer in which I had invested like 1.5 years ago and it's been pretty much unusable.
Now since I 've confirmed it's not only my setup but NVIDIA problem, I'm going for ATI for the first time.

If anyone knows a solution to get the card running smooth, would be lovely.
Sometimes it will crash on boot, Sometimes i would get a few hr's out of farcry 2 before it crashed.
No ryhme or resaon to the crashes, not a power issue, a heat issue or a conflicting driver issue.
or os xp, vista, 7 and linux have been tried
Any ideas, please post

Have the same problem with my 9800gt .
would never buy nvidia again..
I'm sure it is a driver problem..
Burned each time ive tried nvidia.
I have replaced my 9800gt with a 4850 ati runs beutifuly..
The nvidia is in a second pc awiting a proccesor and hoping nvidia has fixed its non-functional drivers...
Tried all the things you have disabling physx etc, no change.
Was returned 3 times, each one displayed the same faults, upgraded my psu to 800watt memory, in linux crashes on 3d desktop
