Shannon's Independent Independence

SHANNON walked the whole weekend at the Wellness G.I.F.T.S. Came in Bath, NY. She tackled both flat and rough terrain with gusto, only climbing into her wheelchair for breathers. She is showing daily improvements and had a real opportunity at camp, as it was wide open with a lot of supportive people ~ ~ adults and other campers ~ ~ who allowed her to use them as ballasts in her quest for independence. I counted her taking at least 6-7 independent steps without holding on to anything thing more than once. She walks extremely well (upright ,straight and at a normal kid's walking pace) when she has the assurance of two people on either side but she is actually walking with little/no support. Can also walk with one person holding on to one hand, although not as upright and straight.
