Gran Turismo 5: Go-Karts Confirmed at Gamescom 2010

In an interview with the official UK PlayStation website, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida mentions new graphical effects, including, "damage, night racing and weather." That has weather covered, but then he continues on.

These innovations are twinned with the option to join millions of like-minded individuals globally within the Gran Turismo community and to find a driving experience to suit, whether that is taking on the Top Gear test track, chucking cars around stunt arenas, go-karting, creating and sharing your own track or intense head-to-head races. Who, where and what to drive is completely down to the individual.

Go-Karting is finally confirmed for Gran Turismo 5 at Gamescom 2010.

The Consortium aims to resolve the situation by means of a diplomatic request to Sony to remove the offending items. If that doesn't happen, they plan to block the game's release until their request is granted.

Here's what Consortium CEO Anna Carli had to say in an interview with Corriere.it:

You can not use images of Contrade, in this case the flags, without authorization. Given the relevance of the game with no history and references to our party, in particular with the use of images of flags of the contrade, we would not authorize use.

An Italian organization has issued complaints regarding the Piazza del Campo-based kart track in Gran Turismo 5.

According to The Consortium for the Protection of the Palio, Sony does not have their permission to use the flags of the Contrade -- districts or wards in an Italian city -- in the track. Piazza del Campo is famous for the Palio di Sienna horse race which is held along the edges of the piazza.
