A review of the first 3 episodes of the bloody samurai anime series Shigurui: Death Frenzy. In short: stylish and unusually structured.

  • @SpencervdM no the internet is a better place with commenters like you.

  • if you all want to get the whole story the full thing read the manga way longer and explains way more :] pretty good vid by the way

  • ahhhh....the sex scene bit just threw me off. plus being a girl makes me decline to this sort of gruesome anime and its not like ill watch hello kitty either. but thank you for the warning and great review

  • You haven't reviewed enough anime then, good sir -- in regards to the Japanese stuff. =3 A playful jest, that is all. I look forward to watching it; your review was helpful in making my decision. Thank you. ^_^

  • Great review, I think I'll check this out. ^^ One crit, though it's a technical one.

3:31 - "This is a samurai story set in ancient Japan"

This doesn't work for me. I just read the story is set in 1629, and I learned the rise of the samurai to power wasn't until around 1200. I would not want to call that "ancient". I would rather say "feudal Japan", and maybe "classical", though the latter would be better for around Heian period. (approx. 800-1200AD).

    I'm sorry if I'm acting like a know-it-all

  • hmm interesting.. i like their concept of the flashback... I hope its not stereotypically used though.

  • I read the comments that people posted on ANN, describing the contents in series to be very severe, as many acts that are committed in show are holocaust-like, and pretty much one of the sickest things that I hear.

  • Looks neat, but samurai anime's don't usually appeal to me. Maybe I'll watch it when I get some spare time or something.

    But good review, anyways!

  • Shigurui is awesome... so deliciously dysfunctional. I definitely can understand why some people find the pace annoying, but the manga has none of those problems if that bothers you. The manga, which still runs until today, is drawn by the guy who did Apocalypse Zero (but written by a competent storyteller). The art is so hyper-detailed it's insane.

  • need to finish this anime but i like it but at times it to dark to see
