Hello. My name is Samantha Ervin. I am 17 years old, and I will graduate from Whitmore School by this summer. I am currently attending Whitmore because I had a lot of problems at my old school. My old school is probably one of the worst schools in West Virginia. It is very unorganized. There are so many drama filled people there that no one can concentrate on school work. There are so many fights due to misunderstandings. People in my old school do not respect each other. This also causes some of the fights. This is only a few of the problems.

Since I have stared schooling at Whitmore, I have been able to do so much better. I am making better grades. I am able to concentrate on my work. I am not afraid to ask for help. I can work at my own pace. And I can graduate a whole year early.

Since I can graduate early, I plan on attending college in the fall. The only thing I am worried about is not having enough money to pay for tuition. I live close enough to the college I want to attend so I can stay at home. This makes things a little easier. I know that I will not have to pay for housing. My family has a very low income, so they cannot help me money wise. They have told me multiple times that if they had the money, I would not have any worries about college. I have been trying to find a job for over a year now. I have yet to find one. This also makes things difficult because I am not making any money to save for tuition. I have applied for every scholarship I can find, but I have not been successful enough to win one of them. I have also tried to apply for grants, but since I am not 18, I cannot apply. I really do not want to take out a loan for tuition because I know I would have difficulty paying it back. I know that debt puts a lot of strain on families, so I do not want to do that to mine.

If I do get the money to attend college, I want to become a registered nurse. I want to be an RN because I love helping people. Ever since I can remember, I have been interested in the medical field. It was not until recently that I decided what I really wanted to do. After I become an RN, I want to specialize in pediatrics. I love children as much as I love helping people. Also, there is always a demand for nurses. So I know that I will be guaranteed a job once I get my certification. This is why I believe that a career as a pediatric nurse is the best career for me.

If I do not have to money to attend college, I want to become a certified nursing assistant. I have already looked into the training. I would love to do the training now, but once again, you have to be 18. So if I cannot pay for college, I will take the training classes at my local hospital. I wish that I could become a CNA now, so that I could be saving money for college, but it is just my luck that I am not old enough.

Thank you for your time. I enjoyed taking this class.
