Before I begin: Please
1) TURN THE VOLUME UP
or better yet
2) USE HEADPHONES

Hey everyone, this is yet another collection of recordings I made for self evaluation, and I decided to make a video of them and upload it for you all.

I'm almost always at school, so I haven't made any new recordings in a long time. I'm also going to be out of town for the summer which means no piano videos in the future (unless plans change). At the University I go to, there's a Grand Piano in pretty good condition just a few minute's walk from my residence, so I play around on it from time to time. I use the sound recording application on my laptop to record my lectures when I go to them. I thought, hey, why not try this out and record my playing?

Yeah, so I thought it might be nice to share some of the better recordings. The ultimate goal for this video is to ask two things from all of you, regarding feedback:
1) I was, and still am, generally not too happy with my first recording of Nocturne in Bb Minor. The recording of it shown in this video is how I play it now. I hope everyone enjoys it. And of course..don't hold back on any feedback you think would be helpful
2) Vote for which audio quality you like more. I think the audio quality with my laptop sound recording is much better, but still not great. The limitation of using my laptop to record is the very low volume. (I made a few recordings of Fighting and One-Winged Angel, but I deleted them because there were static noises from the volume being too loud. Also, I have a feeling that the sound quality is a lot better for these recordings because the Grand Piano is located in a multipurpose room with a lot of open space, and pretty much nothing else in the room. Ok, so, I just need to know what you all think of this style of recording (until I get myself a microphone) because it sounds really nice to me on my laptop ONLY IF I USE HEADPHONES. Sorry for viewers who are using laptops and don't have headphones...

All right, so here's what I have for you all in this video. Keep in mind though that these were recorded some time ago for sound testing, so only Zanarkand is a full recording, while the others are partial recordings.

Final Fantasy X Piano Collections - To Zanarkand
Final Fantasy X Piano Collections - Besaid Island
Chopin - Nocturne in Bb Minor, Op 9, Nr 2
Chopin - Waltz in C# Minor, Op 64, Nr 2

Commentary:
1) To Zanarkand:
lol, I don't know how many times I've uploaded To Zanarakand...anyway, nothing too new. There's a bit of difference here. I guess I still change the way I play the pieces I know. Two mistakes I think in the arpeggios section; sorry about that :P
2) Nocturne:
Right, just to reiterate, this is how I play this nocturne now, and I really think it is much better than my first uploaded recording
3) Waltz:
This one is so incredibly fun to play. Obviously, I need a bit of work on it. But I getting there! Will I complete this? (this is question because I kind of don't like the middle slow section)
Hmm...I probably will, but who knows...

Thanks for watching, everyone.
It is all of you viewers that keep me playing the piano :)

  • Buy yourself a mic (one designed for music), plug it in to your laptop, and you're sure to have better sound quality. Get yourself some recording software -- Audacity is free and does basic stuff. Other programs out there exist if you don't like Audacity or it's not technical/powerful enough.

As far as these recordings go, the music is awesome, of course. But it's way too quiet (as you know) and I am hearing an electronic buzzing sound in the background.

Love your music, keep it up!

  • Hi, thanks for the guidance. I have no knowledge of microphones. Do you have one in particular that you would recommend?

  • Zanarkand: Just as good as ever.

Besaid Island: Your second recording a while back inspired me to learn this piece, and you just play it to near perfection.

    Nocturne in Bb Minor: Awesome.

Waltz in C# Minor: Holy s***!

And there's your critique. Waltz definitely sounds like a fun song to play! Also, the quality of your laptop recordings isn't too shabby either. 5*

  • Hey thanks for the input :)

  • hey this is also Calbee219.

    lol no particular reason actually.

But I guess its good this way because I think most of my subscribers are here to view Final Fantasy videos. Im just doubting that have many subscribers because of Chopin, cuz my Chopin way pretty mediocre. Anyway I really hope to show more Chopin pieces in the future. I have a lot in my memory bank, but none of them are finished pieces hahahah

  • C'est bizarre, une compilation de mes morceaux préférés x).

    Bravo à toi ^^.

  • Zanarkand recording was beatiful, and I havent looked at the piano collections version, but in the game version when the actual melody begins, that first arpeggio goes E, B, E, F#, G, A, then when your right hand plays the B,G "chord", your left hand goes down to C and then to G. Then your right hand plays F# for 2 beats while your left hand rests for one, and plays F# for the second. Then right hand plays E for two beats while left hand plays E for first beat and C for second.

  • Just wow.

  • Final Fantasy Nerd

  • Too bad we can't see the actual footage of you playing this... It's absolutely amazing. By the way, have you ever tried playing Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9, No. 2? It's a really beautiful piece, and I think I could probably listen to it forever if you played it, haha. Please do consider! Thanks.

  • heart warming :)

  • I love the music, i can hear perfectly as i can increase the volume high but the music was absolutely stunning.

  • This is just beautiful... honestly i almost cried, this is just so good song.. but kinda sad :-/

  • One of the best recordings of the nocturne I have heard thus far:) Impressive!

  • Your zanarkand sounds really cool. Nice play with the pedal. I would like to hear this version in better audio. So I can play it in my car :)

  • laptop recording is a real pain, but sounds good. The problem is if it's too far away, it gets disjointed or too soft. Too close, there is feedback on the lower registers especially. You must have had to practice positioning your laptop a lot. I still haven't gotten the hang of it. Anyways, very nice rendition.
