Taking a quick break from uploading Braid, to upload the first of many FAQ videos, in an effort to cut down on the number of questions I recieve on this specific subject.

Questions Answered in Part 2 of the Two Part Video:
Q) How do you get Joypads to work?
A) Easiest way - Use Joytokey.

Q) How did you record Braid/Newer Titles in Widescreen?
A) Obviously, I'm using the PC Version of Braid, no idea about recording off an Xbox yet. :P
Braid does not support widescreen properly (there's black bars at the top and bottom, which Fraps, DOES record), even in Windowed Mode, so I had to use Guncam.
As for newer titles that CAN support Widescreen (Left 4 Dead, Killing Floor, etc) should be recorded in windowed mode, or else from my experience, will crash.

Q) What settings do you use in Movie Maker?
A) Very High Quality (Large). Alternatively if that doesn't work very well, try Video for Lan (2.0mbps/1.5mbps)

Q) How do you make HD videos in Movie Maker?
A) Google Papa John's Movie Maker Tutorials. Very useful site.

Hopefully that should be of some use to you guys! Catch ya later.

  • its a torrented file that runs for 20 or so minuits

  • That might be the problem. It seems the file and codec used simply isn't compatable with WMM. An alternative is to convert it into a different filetype.

Format Factory is free to use and fullfills this perpose. Try converting it into a .wmv type. You'll have to mess around with the settings and it might be more effort than it's worth.

If you only want a clip and have recording software (e.g Guncam) or the like, you can use that to "rerecord" that scene.

Otherwise I'm at a total loss. Sorry.

  • well im not sure whar codec is but what im trying to do is load an avi. or wmv. file onto wmm, but if thats the case and it only takes wmv. what can i get to change it to wmv. without changing the quality dramaticaly

  • It will take other filetypes, but clearly it just doesn't like the codec your file is rendered in.

Do a google search for Format Factory. I cannot post the link here because Youtube will automatically remove the comment.

  • hey, acespark! i have got a pretty annoying problem with the WMM at the moment:i have no sound while editing a video and the video has no sound when its done and saved as avi too! pls help me!

  • ty so much, im now able to put video files into wmm by changing them to wmv.

    I owe u

  • k ty, im downloading now, hope not a virus :) >:(

  • What are you using to record?

It might have something to do with the codec. Xvid or DivX (or even Fraps) seem to be the ones of choice for compatability with Movie Maker.

  • when i drag it in it gives me no other choice, and when i look at the properties it just comes up with audio as the type

  • That is a little odd. I've never had that happen. Are you sure you're dragging it into the "movie" bar and not the "audio" bar?
