A songcycle (for voice, cello, flute and piano), consisting of three songs: Nahandove; Aoua; Il est doux. Composed in 1925-6. It is nowadays rather broadly accepted, that Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire songcycle served as a model for Ravel.

Also, and this is very rare, Ravel speaks out politically, against colonialism. Aoua, is in-between a love song and an evening song.
