  • Shredding the paper would defeat the object, this is designed to retain the water, as the beans are very water hungry

    Thanks for your comment, although this is not correct, the compost trench was on the runner beans and French beans, not the dwarf French beans which were the ones that are struggling.

    Compost tranches and bedding the trench with newspaper are a well known method for beans, they love having lots of water, and thrive on the extra compost in the trench.

  • get yourself a paper shredder and bag it up for your garden, the shreds are more airy and compost easier..u would be surprised how big of trash bags all those bill stubs amount up to be, lol...i have a huge bag of them plus its a great quick fire starter for the fireplace in winter!

  • The beans died because the newspaper on the bottom stopped their roots from growing, and the compost on the top retained not much water. Oops!!! You made a boo-boo. Your other plants look great. Fun videos.
