Experiment using Tesseract OCR for ANPR

Adaptive background modeling was used for finding cars. Vertical projection of Sobel operator's vertical component for locating plate band and finding plate in it. Iterative thresholding techique was used for binarization of plate. Horizontal projection of binary plate was used for character segmentation. After that each character was passed to Tesseract OCR for recognition.

Hi there, i'm working on a project that is very similar to yours, but in my project i have to recognize the car's plate number from a picture.

I'm trying to use tesseract too, but tesseract is unable to recognize the plate if i try to input the entire picture to it, so, to me, the solution seems to be filtering that image before try to use it as tessact's input.

Can you give me more information on how you did this and which softwares did you use besides tesseract?
